The Purchasing Manager provides leadership to purchasing, inventory and receiving departments to effectively meet customer demand. This leader will manage cost effective materials and delivery, maintain proper inventory levels through planning and forecasting, ensure accuracy of inventory, and provide continuous and reliable material supply to production. Leads four direct reports: Inventory Manager, Two Buyers, and Production Planner. Reports to the Director of Operations.


Developing and leading a team that can exceed expectations and continuously improve; managing the design and implementation of the purchasing process to ensure effective, smooth operation; being responsible for the materials management functions, including purchasing, logistics, inventory, and receiving; production planning including forecasting; developing, implementing and maintaining department work procedures, identifying and implementing process improvement ideas.


Implementing supply chain improvement/cost management opportunities through appropriate business strategies; establishing and implementing programs to document the proper handling of requisitions, orders, receipt and storage of stock, ensuring appropriate inventory levels are maintained through critical parameters; developing, implementing and maintaining an inventory cycle count system that achieves an accurate count of real time inventory levels and needs to ensure material control.


Collaborating daily with Production Leadership; apprising key staff members on material shortage issues involving scheduling, delivery and supplier performance issues; partnering with Group Sourcing and Engineering to pursue product enhancements and cost saving ideas with suppliers; assisting the Director of Operations to identify training needs; ensuring proper training is provided and documented for all staff employees; orienting new employees.


Managing KPIs and implementing countermeasures based on trends; working closely with other Operations leaders on manufacturing plans and goals; ensuring optimal output through ERP management; developing cross-functional disposition plan to address slow moving or obsolete materials; monitoring agreed upon buffer stocks at vendors and driving optimized packaging and MOQs in coordination with the GSM.


Analyzing inventory to determine how to reduce Net Working Capital while optimizing service levels and inventory turns; Identifying continuous improvement opportunities to improve efficiencies and rectify process breakdowns; driving best practices that positively influence Sales & Operational Planning and forecast accuracy.

Increases management's effectiveness by:

Recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff; communicating values, strategies, and objectives; assigning accountabilities; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; developing incentives; developing a climate for offering information and opinions; providing educational opportunities.

Accomplishes subsidiary objectives by:

Establishing plans, budget, and results measurements; allocating resources; reviewing progress; making mid-course corrections; being responsible for identifying and implementing supply chain performance improvements related to processes and expense management for supplies, equipment, and services; supporting business objectives related to customer service, on-time delivery, inventory size and cost, etc. through strategic materials management plans.


  • Bachelor's Degree from college or university in business administration, materials management or related discipline preferred.
  • Five to seven years of experience in materials management in manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Purchasing, Planning, Logistics and Supply Chain processes required.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience highly preferred
