Powder coaters are responsible for applying one of the different finishes we offer by ensuring all surfaces are smooth, grinded properly, blasted evenly and prepped correctly for the powder coating application. They are also responsible for operating the powder coat gun, adjusting settings on the gun, changing out/filling hoppers with powder, replacing worn powder coat gun parts, monitoring cure time and temps in the ovens to ensure proper curing and adhesion to give our finishes a strong, and durable aesthetic appeal.

 

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Basic understanding of powder coat processes and application techniques
  • Ensure proper powder coat settings and practices are being followed
  • Basic understanding of root cause analysis on potential powder coat related issues
  • Basic understanding of proper maintenance on all powder coatovens and powder coat guns and hoppers
  • Understanding of the finish related pass/fail criteria
  • Monitor stock levels in powder coat and powder coat gun replacement parts
  • Ability to be able to distinguish different frame and component types and match to proper paperwork based on specification callouts
  • Understanding of the grinding/blast prep process
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment  
  • Follow direction, procedures, and instructions for all work assignments  
  • Work as a team and maintain professionalism at all levels in the organization  
  • Support all quality, safety, and environmental programs  
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time   

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of Permobil finish department experience, preferred
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance; reports to work on time 
  • Good mechanical skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of powder coat and the chemical properties of it
  • TeamPlayer
  • Time Managementskills
  • Decision-making
  • Self-starting ability
  • Ability to work with little-to-no supervision
  • Basic understanding of finish related documents

Level of Education or Experience in Lieu of:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1-2years of Permobil finish or fabrication, preferred
  • 1+ years of powder coat experience, preferred
  • Proficiency in the English language (written and oral)

Physical Demands:

  • Standing 8 to 10+ hours
  • Holding a hand grinder for 8 to 10+ hours
  • Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, push and pull 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, kneel, twist, squat, grasp, and work with tools above shoulder level
